MADE OF
TEMPLES AND FLOWERS
|
(VISIT TO
NINA VERBUCK)
|
|
A talented kharkovian
artist Nina Verbuck has many enthusiastic admirers. Numerous records from guest
books of her exhibitions can tell about it. There are some of them:
|
|
-
Dear Nina Semyonovna! Your exhibiiton, your paintings are as "a ray of light" in
our present "dark kingdom". Your pictures are the life itself, they containe
all: light, warmth, beauty. It can be said without overstatement that the sacred feeling
of joy and blessing is coming from them. And your talent is worthy of admiring, indeed...
|
-... I
brought out from Your exhibition my sole, overfilled with light. Thank you!
|
-... Beauty and inspiration
didn't desert me for half an hour...
|
- ... Nina Verbuck's
paintings are as oasis of calm, the harmony of soul, purity. Soft pastel tints, light
haze, such near understandable faces... Almost ever they are not smiling, they are
concentrated, absorbed by inner life. They are wise!
|
-Happiness, light, kindness
flow from her pictures. My daughter is seven only, but she looked at paintings with great
pleasure...
|
-... I'm very happy to get
here. Thank you very much. And thanks to God that you are!
|
|
Different people write, in different manner
they express their feelings and thoughts, but all of them are unanimous: works of Nina
Verbuck are the joy, the life itself, the emboded dream. What could be added to these
comments, sincere and artless? Only that after visiting of Nina Verbuck exhibition I
supplemented the list of admirers of her bright and original talent. The natural wish
rised to get to know the author of these works. And this wish was implemented. Nina
Semyonovna did me the kindness and agreed for meeting and answering the questions of our
editorial staff.
|
|
She is looking like her works.
The same purity, perfestion, clarity, the same wrapping up, not in herself, but in
that world, form where she brings to us her wonderful paintings. They are so simple as
mysterious. Meticulous technique, which means a great and well-founded school ( indeed,
there is not enough just one inspiration to create a masterpiece), is combined
successfully with a gift of special vision, which even cannot be denoted as fantasy. She
doesn't labour, she creates, and this creation brings joy, warmth, light, love - they are
transfered to everybody, who ever had seen her paintings.
|
|
She is generous, spontaneous, natural.
She is quite open and enigmatic at the same time. Sometimes it seems to me, that there are
not paintings at the walls but the windows into another worlds, and these worlds are kind,
unearthly, but bright. Strangely, even dark tints are heating. And still - she is calm,
somehow blissfully calm. This calmness doesn't mean an inertia but means a confidence in
stability of her own place in the world, of her unity with world, and if it is so, there
is no reason for alarms and hurry. It's possible to contemplate leisurely the nature,
locating the slightest nuances of colour and light. It's possible to peer in people
faces for long, taking in their feelings, thoughts and moods. It's possible to meditate on
elevated and imperishable things - from there, perhaps, originates her special interest to
temples, in which the symbol of all sacred is concealed for all of us.
|
|
But her temples are not isolated from the
earth. They doesn't suppress; on the contrary, they are heating us with warmth of gently
light, flowing from the windows, they are harmoniously inserted into attributes of our
habitual world. For creating of such compositions not only a talent was needed, but still
a boldness - to combine, no, rather to join the items, which appeared as very far form
each other till this moment. It was necessary to lose touch with the wall of usual
conceptons and to take a step forward towars unknown. Experience proved to be fruitful and
impressive. Cycle of compositions with temples appeared, where peacefully get on the
ancient idols and wise cat, beautiful woman face, painted eggs - "pysanky", rosy
Easter pie - "kulich" - and many others. It seems, that this cycle isn't
ended still and many new meetings and joyous discoveries are waiting for us...
|
|
Thus I converse with Nina.
She is sparcle - with wonderful bright, blue eyes, with blinding smile... It seems, that
the space around her radiates light also. Just like her paintings. It's, probably, her
natural gift, which she doesn't close inside, but generously share it with us. You feel
yourself so easy with her, obviously because she is simple, cordial, considerate towards
you indeed, and doesn't try to make such appearance. You are interesting her, and she is
listening to you meditatively, as if absorbing all in herself. And she will understand and
advise, but she won't thrust anything on you. She simply will take your essence and will
know without any word, what you need.

|
We hope that Yury Ivanov's lines have been a convincing addition
for you to the facts about Nina Verbuck. But any words won't say more about an artist than
his (her) paintings. You can see them ( Gallery
1, Gallery 2, Gallery 3.).
You have also the fortunate opportunity to study here her autobiographical outline "Following the Betlegem Star". (in
Russian, to be translated soon in English)
